POTENTIAL CLOSING OF CHATHAM TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING

CHATHAM BASKETBALL CLUB RESPONSE TO POTENTIAL CLOSING OF CHATHAM TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL FACILITY

CBC is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to the children of Chatham Township and Chatham Borough.  Our mission is to teach basketball in a fun, safe and positive environment.  The Chatham Basketball Club has over 750 youth Recreation Basketball participants in grades 3-8, including approximately 260 Travel and Developmental players.  Significantly more boys and girls in Chatham play basketball than any other sport during the winter months.  We are not a political organization, and have no connection to the Chatham Township Committee, its members, or its decisions.  However, it is important that the Chatham Township Committee and the Chatham Basketball community understand that a decision to close the facility would have a very negative impact to the Chatham Basketball Club.  It is certain that the size of both our Recreation Program and our Travel/Developmental program would need to be reduced significantly.  The facility is critically important to our program as we use it for both travel practices and recreation games on the weekend.

We recognize that youth basketball is not the target of the Chatham Township Committee plan, but our program certainly would be significantly impacted.  We feel it is important that the impact to our club and youth basketball in Chatham is considered as the Chatham Township Committee continues to evaluate alternatives.

Respectfully,
Chatham Basketball Club

The 5th Grade Chatham Girls had a blast at the NJIT game down in Newark. A fun time at a great new facility.
